The Gower Walking Festival has officially launched its 2026 programme, introducing a major initiative to make the outdoors more accessible: completely free entry for all walkers under the age of 18.
The 2026 Gower Walking Festival programme includes more than 35 walks and children are allowed on 10 of them. To ensure safety, all participants aged 18 or younger must be accompanied by a responsible adult* on a one-to-one ratio.
Headline family event
A major highlight of the 2026 lineup is the brand-new Port Eynon: Family Coastal Discovery Walk, taking place on Saturday, 12th September at 10.30am.
Designed specifically for young explorers, this easy-going, circular stroll trades long distances for big imaginations. The route allows families to experience the coastal landscape at a child’s pace and features a hands-on creative activity to connect children directly with nature. It offers the perfect blend of fresh sea air, light exercise, and artistic discovery. All ages welcome.
Younger walkers are welcome on a number of other walks:
- Mon 7th Sept: Bays, beaches & bards
- Mon 7th Sept: A walk for all: Llanrhidian to Wernffrwd
- Tue 8th Sept: The development of Mumbles & Oystermouth Castle
- Wed 9th Sept: Three Cliffs Bay, Pennard Castle and Gower Heritage Centre
- Thu 10th Sept: To the coastguard station on Rhossili headland
- Sat 12th Sept: Forget Me Not Swansea Dementia Day Clubs Prom Memory Walk

You can search the Walks page for “family friendly” to get a list of walks that children under 18 can participate in.
Walking for a cause
In addition, the Latch Gower Coastal Path Walk for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month on Sunday 13th September – one of three charity walks on the Gower Walking Festival programme – has a special 3-mile section along the Coastal Path from Caswell Bay to Mumbles where Latch families, staff, volunteers, partners and supporters can join the long distance walkers, coming together to walk in gold and raise awareness of childhood cancer.
*The responsible adult should have parental responsibility or an equivalent supervisory role, such as a parent, legal guardian, carer, teacher or youth worker. GWF walk leaders and back markers will not provide supervision or care for under-18s.
It is up to the responsible adult to review the walk description and decide if they think a specific walk is suitable for an individual child.
Please check the How to Book page on our website for full details about our younger walkers and other policies.
