Meet in the White Rock car park (off the roundabout on the east side off the river) for a tour with the Friends of White Rock Industrial Heritage Park.
The White Rock Copper Works were established in the Lower Swansea Valley in 1736. White Rock was one of the most important copper smelting works in the Lower Swansea Valley, the world centre of non-ferrous smelting for much of the 18th and 19th Centuries.
On the walk we will visit the past, present and future of White Rock.
In 2024 the Friends of White Rock received a substantial grant from the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund for a Feasibility Study on the future of the site as a heritage and leisure asset for Swansea. The funds were directed to a range of physical surveys and studies culminating in the White Rock Vision.
The first stage in realising the Vision is a £2m project to create a circular route through the three zones of White Rock with key visitor destinations in each zone. This stage of the work is just starting and walk participants will explore the route and have the opportunity to contribute ideas to realising the Vision.
