TWO BOOTS = Some exertion
Generally good surfaces with some inclines and/or steps and stiles.
THREE BOOTS = Moderate
Varied landscape, possibly with more challenging slopes. Stiles and steps expected. Suitable for keen walkers who are reasonably active.
FOUR BOOTS = Strenuous
Challenging walk for fit and experienced walkers. Varied terrain, which could include steep gradients, stiles, steps and uneven surfaces.
