You might think that the Gower Walking Festival is all about challenging, long distance hikes – but you’d be wrong. Yes, we do have some of those in the programme, quite a few in fact. But we also take our aim of offering walks suitable for everyone very seriously. So, among the nearly 40 walks that make up the Festival there are several short, gentle strolls – some as little as 1 mile and a total of 16 less than 5 miles.
On Monday 7th September A walk for all: Llanrhidian to Wernffrwd takes a fully accessible 2-mile route from St Illtyd’s Church in Llanrhidian to St David’s in Wernffrwd. Skirting the vast, shimmering expanse of the Loughor Estuary, the flat route is perfect for wheelchair users, those with mobility aids, or families with pushchairs.
Other short walks (2 miles or less), include:
- Singing walk in Bishop’s Wood (1.5 miles) on Sunday 6th September
- The development of Mumbles & Oystermouth Castle 1 mile) on Tuesday 8th September
- White Rock Industrial Heritage Park walk (1 mile) on Wednesday 9th September
- To the coastguard station on Rhossili headland (1.5 miles) on Thursday 10th September
- Following in the Footsteps of Swansea Football Legends (2 miles) on Friday 11 September
- Cwm Ivy Stroll (2 miles) on Friday 11th September
- Port Eynon: family coastal discovery walk on Saturday 12th September
- Beach litter pick: Swansea Beach (1.5 miles) on Sunday 13th September
In addition, although it’s four miles, the Forget Me Not Swansea Dementia Day Clubs Prom Memory Walk is very flat, gently pace route around the promenade from The Cenotaph to Verdi’s in Mumbles which aims increase dementia awareness, honour the memory of club members past and present and raise funds for this worthy cause through sponsorship.
