Welcome back, Dynamic Rock! We are so excited to have this Clydach business back on board as a walk sponsor again following a brilliant first year in 2025.
‘Putting climbing at the heart of the community’
Dynamic Rock opened its doors in February 2006, the first and still the only roped climbing centre in the Swansea area. It was opened by some keen climbers who, after searching all over Swansea and Gower for suitable premises, settled on the old public hall in Clydach! In March 2023 it was taken over by Helen Jacob and Matt Woodfield who had both have been involved with the centre since its beginnings, Matt as an instructor in its early days and Helen as the parent of 2 young climbers. Since opening, Dynamic Rock has taught thousands of people to climb!
Climbing is a great sport to get involved with. It develops flexibility and physical strength as well as offering challenge and problem solving. You can boulder, use autobelays, climb with ropes, climb at indoor walls or outside on rock. You can climb on your own but it’s also a very friendly sport where it’s easy to get to know other like-minded people!
Dynamic Rock offers climbing to everyone, whatever their age or ability. From 4-year-olds developing balance and coordination skills on Mini Monkeys sessions to older adults learning to climb and belay each other, from teenagers enjoying social climbing to our competitive squad – there’s something for everyone. Dynamic rock is also an accredited centre for delivering all 5 of the National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme programs – Wild Climbers, Bouldering, Climbing, Clip and Ascend.

Lots of groups use the centre for climbing experiences and team building including local schools, Scouts and Guides, sports teams, charities, and birthday parties. It runs at least 15 different classes for children and young people every week and there are lots of social climbing groups at the centre including Mature Monkeys for older climbers and She Sends They Belay for women and non-binary plus our ever-popular Friday Night Project for adults (with pizza delivered from a local restaurant!).
Upstairs is a café with views over the canal and River Tawe which is becoming popular with dog walkers. It’s also used for craft workshops, meetings and some people like to make use of our free Wi-Fi and great coffee to get some work done!
Dynamic Rock is always keen to support and work in partnership with the local community whether it’s planting daffodils and wildflowers, helping with My Green Valley litterpicks, taking part in the local Christmas parade, supporting young people on work experience or hosting organisations like the RSPB and West Wales Rivers Trust. It works collaboratively with other Clydach businesses including Yoga Place Abertawe and local cafes.
And, it’s not just indoor climbing, we’re also able to offer outdoor climbing too, and regularly have sessions running on the Gower, at Pontneddfechan and our local crags at Graig Cwm. We’re only to aware of how beautiful our local area is and that’s why we’re delighted to be supporting the Gower Walking Festival again and sponsoring a local walk!
For 2026, Dynamic Rock is sponsoring the following walk:
Middle Swansea Valley, Trebanos & Clydach walk on Monday 7th September.
