Sarah Samuel’s earliest memories of walking with others were during her 5 years in school at Malvern. Taking a break from London publishing offices in the 1986, Sarah embarked on her travels to Australia, Thailand, India and included a trek around the Annapurna Sanctuary in Nepal.
But it is back home in Gower where she is happiest. It never ceases to lift her spirits when taking in the views of Three Cliffs, Rhossili Bay, Cefn Bryn or Whiteford Point.
After selling her Mumbles based bookshop business Cover to Cover in 2017, Sarah set herself the task of restarting the popular Gower Walking Festival. With a small enthusiastic committee of volunteers, the festival returned in June 2018. At the same time, Sarah became the secretary of The Gower Society, which is a much appreciated Gower Walking Festival Gold Sponsor. So, retirement life is very busy. She is no longer on the committee of the walking festival but enjoys leading walks for the festival and Gower Society, taking her wire fox terrier dog out on the Pennard cliffs with her husband Nick, and becoming fully involved life on Gower.
Commenting on her walks, Sarah said: “As a walk leader, it is important to ensure you are prepared, let the group be comfortable on the walk, and enjoy. We are so lucky that many of the special places on Gower are so easy to access, and we have and extensive footpath network on Gower. It is important that all of us enjoy the landscape responsibly, take photographs and only leave footprints – for future generations to enjoy.”
For 2026, Sarah is leading the following walks:
Three Cliffs & Cefn Bryn Panorama Circuit on Thursday 10th September.
