MEET OUR WALK LEADERS: Neil Barry

Originally from County Cork, it was love at first sight when Neil Barry first visited Gower with his partner in 1992 and he now counts himself very lucky have lived in Knelston for the last 18 years.

Neil belongs to a number of walking groups including the Ramblers, Gower Society and Reynoldston Ramblers. He is also a regular volunteer with Swansea Council’s footpath maintenance team, assisting in tasks to make routes more accessible and safer.

He frequently leads walks for these groups and particularly likes to take people literally ‘off the beaten path’ to places they may not have explored before. As a retired horticulturalist, he is particularly keen on plants and nature. He also likes history and tries to point out features of interest on walks.  Neil has led walks for the Gower Walking Festival for many years. 

When not out walking, Neil enjoys gardening and learning Welsh, welcoming any opportunity to practice speaking it.  He also helps to run the Gower Film Club, which shows films monthly in Reynoldston Village Hall.
