After studying Ancient History and Archaeology at Birmingham University, Edith Evans came to Swansea in February 1980 to work at the Glamorgan-Gwent Archaeological Trust on a contract due to finish at Easter. She was still there in 2024 when the Trust merged with the other Welsh Archaeological Trusts to form Heneb: The Trust for Welsh Archaeology!
At GGAT, Edith worked on a wide range of excavation and survey projects in South Wales. Her final post was as Outreach Officer, delivering community projects, talks, displays, workshops, and of course, walks.
Edith retired in 2025, to be able to devote more time to my main research interest – Roman food and drink.
She was involved in the very first Gower Walking Festival, and since then has provided at least one walk nearly every year the Festival has run.
For 2026, Edith is leading the following walk:
The Archaeology of Burry Holms on Friday 11th September.
