Ulex Energy, a Swansea-based solar installation company, is one of the Gower Walking Festival’s newest sponsors.
The company was started by Ian Mach, a qualified engineer and keen walker and cyclist. His love for the Gower area is unwavering and his passion to help others to make a switch to an energy source that works with the planet, not against it, is equally strong.

Having qualified from Cardiff University, Ian went on to invent ‘Charge Gully’, a method to enable EV car owners without off-street parking to charge their vehicles. The concept was purchased by a company backed by Deborah Meadon, of Dragon’s Den, and ultimately allowed Ian time to develop his solar panel installation company Ulex.
The company ethos is simple: honesty, reliability and responsibility.
He feels honoured to be able to be a walk sponsor for the 2026 Gower Walking Festival. As he says, “Gower was named the first Area of Outstanding Beauty 70 Years ago. Gower Walking Festival, for its 22 years, has encouraged so many people, to get out, discover and enjoy Gower. Now, with people turning to renewable energy solutions, hopefully Ulex Energy can play its part in ensuring we can all enjoy Gower, as we know it, for years to come too!”
Ian does a lot more than just solar installations and is active not only on a local level, working with schools to help young children develop entrepreneurial skills, but also on a national level as a regular speaker at the Solar & Storage Live London.
Ulex Energy has also been awarded the title of finalist for Regional Solar Installer of the year for the Energy Efficiency awards Wales 2026.
Ulex is sponsoring the Dunvant to Fairwood : Landscape & Legacy walk on Sunday 6th September.
