Three Cliffs & Cefn Bryn Panorama Circuit – 8 miles

This spectacular circular walk links some of the most iconic landscapes on the Gower Peninsula, combining dramatic coastline, ancient woodland, sweeping uplands, and panoramic ridge-top views.

Starting in the village of Southgate, the route joins the Wales Coast Path, following limestone cliffs westward towards the breathtaking scenery of Three Cliffs Bay. With the ruins of Pennard Castle standing high above the dunes, the path descends onto the wide sandy beach, crossing stepping stones over the winding stream before climbing the steep dunes towards Penmaen.

At the site of the old Penmaen Castle, walkers can pause to enjoy one of Gower’s finest viewpoints, looking back across the three limestone peaks rising above the bay. The route then continues along the coast past Tor Bay, before turning inland through quiet countryside near Nicholaston and climbing steadily onto the great ridge of Cefn Bryn.

From the summit ridge, vast panoramic views stretch across the whole Gower Peninsula, Swansea Bay, the Bristol Channel, and the distant uplands of South Wales. Following the Gower Way eastward, the walk gradually descends towards Penmaen before passing through the wooded beauty of North Hill Tor Woods to Parkmill.

The final section climbs past the golf course to Pennard Castle, whose dramatic ruins and coastal views provide a fitting finale before returning to Southgate. Walkers can relax afterwards with refreshments at the popular Pennard Coffee Shop, opposite the National Trust car park.

A packed lunch is required.
