Dunvant to Fairwood: Landscape & Legacy Trail – 7 miles

This walk traces the changing landscape of North Gower from the urban edge at Dunvant to the open uplands of Fairwood Common.Starting in Dunvant, the route quickly leaves suburban streets for lanes and footpaths leading into mixed farmland and small wooded valleys. Field patterns, hedgerows, and boundary lines reveal long-established agricultural use and historic land division.

Passing near Three Crosses, the route reflects a traditional Gower village shaped by farming, quarrying, and historic transport links between inland communities and the coast. Continuing towards Gelli Hir, the landscape becomes more open, with gently rising farmland showing clear geological influence in field shape and drainage. The final stage reaches Fairwood Common, a broad expanse of heath and grazing land with wide views across Gower. The nearby airport introduces a modern industrial layer to the historic landscape. The return to Dunvant highlights the contrast between urban edge, farmland, and open common within a short distance.
