Booked onto a 2026 Gower Walking Festival walk? Please review the checklist below before joining your walk:
- Check the start time and meeting point (as shown on your walk page on the website). Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes early.
- Check the parking, public transport and access information as appropriate.
- Check the weather forecast before leaving home and arrive wear suitable footwear and clothing for the terrain, difficulty of walk and weather.
- Bring waterproofs, warm clothing or sun protection as appropriate.
- Bring sufficient water for the walk.
- Bring snacks and a packed lunch where the walk information says this is required.
- Bring any medication you may need.
- Check the distance, duration, terrain and walk grade and make sure the walk is suitable for you.
- Tell the walk leader privately about any medical condition, allergy or mobility issue that may be relevant during the walk.
- Check whether under-18s are permitted. Where allowed, they must be pre-booked and accompanied by a responsible adult. Check the rules for under 18s on the How to Book page on the website.
- Check whether dogs are permitted. Where allowed, a maximum of two dogs per person applies and the Festival’s Dogs on Walks Rules must be followed (detailed on the How to Book page on the website)
- The walk leader will detail walk-specific safety information for hazards such as roads, cliffs, tides, livestock, difficult terrain or water crossings at the start of the walk.
- There is some evidence of invasive plants such as Japanese Knotweed and Himalayan Balsam around Gower. Do not touch either, [and do not allow dogs to pick up fallen stems]. We recommend that you wash your boots after completing your walk to avoid spreading these plants.
- We also have adders on Gower and you should take care (particularly if you are with a dog).
- Ticks are also common at this time of year – and will attach themselves to both dogs and humans.
- Stay with the group and between the walk leader and back marker. Always follow the walk leader’s safety instructions. Tell the walk leader or back marker before leaving the group.
- Tell the walk leader immediately if you feel unwell, are injured or are struggling to continue.
- Take reasonable responsibility for your own safety and participate at your own risk.
- Follow the Countryside Code and respect wildlife, livestock, landowners and other countryside users.
- Be aware that the route may be altered, shortened or cancelled if weather or other conditions make this necessary.
- Respect people’s privacy when taking photographs and obtain permission before photographing or sharing identifiable images of others. Tell the walk leader if you do not wish to be photographed.

- Help us by providing the walk steward with responses to a couple of questions at the start of your walk an/or complete the Festival feedback questionnaire when it is sent out at the end of the Festival.
