Kilvey Hill Ecology and Industrial History

some-icon

This is a three-mile walk around Swansea’s iconic Kilvey Hill. It starts at The Glade car park, just above the White Rock copper works. The walk concentrates on the western side of the hill and explores the remains of Kilvey’s industrial and environmental history, from medieval coal mining, the Industrial Revolution, and the copper works to the later history of industrialisation and the modern recovery of the environment. Your guide is Nigel Robins who has researched and written several books on the history and biodiversity of the hill. We also take in the summit of the hill and the incredible views of Swansea Bay and beyond, as well as the iconic Green Man sculpture that has become the emblem of the environmental renaissance on the hill. All are on paths, but some rocks and stones and stout footwear is necessary.
