Gower Walking Festival

Annual Celebration of Gower

Medieval Rhossili

moderate-icon

On leaving the start point, walkers will descend the steps to the burrows where we will look at what remains above ground of the besanded medieval settlement and learn about its history. We will then re-ascend the steps and proceed along the road to visit Rhossili church. On leaving the church we will pick up the track to the Vile, then walk through it talking about how the open-field system functioned. Leaving the Vile on the west side, we will walk round the outside of its enclosure wall back to the start point, taking in the Coastwatch Station and the Iron Age fort on the way.

The flight of steps to the burrows is long and steep, and some of the paths and trackways in the Vile may be muddy.
